Lynda Webb - Senior Research Associate Dr Webb is a Senior Researcher in Informatics with 25+ years of experience co-designing digital solutions in the health, care, and energy sectors. Her passion is ensuring innovation is fit for purpose, which can be achieved by involving stakeholders in all stages of the design process. She has contributed to raising c. £16M funding. Saber Mirzaee Bafti - Senior Research Associate Dr. Saber Mirzaee Bafti holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering and currently serves as a research associate at the School of Informatics. His research revolves around assistive technologies and translational studies in digital healthcare. With expertise spanning electronics, embedded computing, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and pattern recognition, his work is focused on advancing the field of digital healthcare solutions and implementing edge computing solutions in real-world healthcare applications. Irene Yang - Innovation Research Fellow Irene’s Fellowship is on the development of machine learning models that can predict the success of bone-healing after a fracture. Irene has a PhD (Oxon) in MSK and a Bachelor in Medical Science (Sydney). Previsouly she was an RA with Hamish Simpson at Centre for Inflammation Research at The University of Edinburgh. Ken Scott - Business Development Manager Ken’s career started in the pharmaceutical industry where he engaged in the development and introduction of a number of major breakthroughs in the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. He subsequently spent over 15 years consulting on how to optimise innovations and led major collaborations with universities in both the UK and USA. In his current role within the School of Informatics Ken supports industry partners’ ambitions to build balanced research portfolios and attain commercially viable returns from their innovation strategies. Chenfei (Eric) Ma - Research Associate Dr. Ma is a Researcher Associate in Informatics. His interested in human machine interfacing, with a main focus on artificial Intelligence algorithm design, signal processing, software engineering, data mining, cloud computing and services. He aims to build interfaces that meaningfully improve people's lives. Nadia Aghili - Research Assistant Nadia Aghili earned her B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in electronic engineering from Golestan University, Iran, in 2016, followed by an M.Sc. degree in biomedical engineering-bioelectric from the Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2020. Currently, she serves as a Research Assistant at the School of Informatics, at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Her research centers around the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Her specific research interests encompass digital healthcare, machine learning, deep learning, biomedical signal processing, and the practical implementation of healthcare solutions in real-world scenarios. Wei Ju - Research Assistant Wei Ju is pursuing a PhD affiliated with the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems, University of Edinburgh. He completed his first degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology at University of Greenwich in 2018 and an MSc degree in Electronics from University of Edinburgh in 2019. His present research focuses on the development and miniaturisation of wearable medical electronics for the rehabilitation of overactive bladder syndrome (OBS) associated with urinary incontinence (UI). Milad Jabbari - PhD Student Milad Jabbari is a PhD student at the School of Informatics focusing on hardware implementation of deep learning models to control an EMG based prosthetic hand. Katarzyna (Kasia) Szymaniak - PhD Student Katarzyna Szymaniak is a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics. Her doctoral research is supported by the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical Artificial Intelligence. Her research focuses on adaptability and robustness in myoelectric control, using active learning, transfer learning, domain generalisation and representation learning. Aidan McConnell-Trevillion - PhD Student Aidan McConnell-Trevillion is a PhD student with the School of Informatics’ Institute for Adaptive and Neural Computation. His research focuses on the application of novel neuromodulatory techniques for the treatment of Overactive Bladder (OAB). Applying a background in traditional neuroscience, his present work includes computational neuroscience, machine learning, patient outreach, and large-scale statistical analysis. (Hons.) degree in electronic engineering and M.S. degree in circuits and systems in 2018 and 2021, respectively, both from Fudan University, China. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D degree at the School of Informatics, the University of Edinburgh, UK. His research interests include neurorehabilitation, neural computing, human-machine interface and biomedical signal processing (EMG in particular), with applications to various industrial and clinical scenarios. Hannah studied how collaborative research theory and methodologies work within an academic context. Her background is in industrial design, graduating with an Intel Scholarship, with a focus on design methodologies that address unmet user needs. Alex Mellers - Research Assistant Alex Mellers is a seasoned Engineer and Researcher with a rich background in the Medical and Renewable Energy sectors. During his tenure with MedEngine, he led initiatives to enhance Parkinson's care and chronic care through technology-enabled objective measurements. His accomplishments include the development of innovative medical products, mobile and web applications. He is a PhD student in Energy Resilience at UCL, having previosuly received an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Newcastle University.
